Finding out you’re pregnant when you weren’t expecting it can stop you in your tracks. You might feel scared, overwhelmed, or completely unsure what your next move should be. Those feelings are real, and they make sense. What matters most right now is that you have time to think, access to accurate information, and someone in your corner while you sort through your options.
We are Hope Life Center, a nonprofit pregnancy resource center in Wausau, Wisconsin. Every service we offer is free and confidential, and we don’t have a financial stake in the decision you make. Our role is to give you the information and support you need to make a choice that is right for your life.
What We Offer
Our services are designed to give you a clear medical picture of where things stand and the space to think through what comes next.
Pregnancy testing. We use lab-quality tests with a 99% accuracy rate. If you took a home test and you’re not confident in the result, or you simply want confirmation before making any decisions, you can come in at no cost and without judgment.
Limited OB ultrasound. This is the step that actually confirms whether a pregnancy is viable and how far along it is. This matters more than most people realize. If you’re weighing any option, including the abortion pill, knowing your gestational age ahead of time is medically important. Our registered nurses perform these ultrasounds and walk you through what you’re seeing.
STI/STD testing and treatment. We offer testing and treatment for women as part of our health services. Sexually transmitted infections can directly affect a pregnancy, so testing is a responsible step regardless of what you decide to do.
Abortion information consultation. We give you a private space to ask questions about the abortion process — how the abortion pill works, what surgical abortion involves, what the risks are at different gestational ages — without anyone steering you toward or away from a particular answer. We are trained to inform, not direct.
Abortion pill reversal. If you’ve taken the first dose of the abortion pill and want to stop the process, time is critical. We can help connect you with the resources needed. If you’ve taken mifepristone and changed your mind, contact us or call the 24/7 reversal hotline at 1-877-558-0333 as soon as possible.
Options counseling. We provide counseling covering all three paths: parenting, adoption, and abortion. We don’t have a financial stake in the outcome and will not push you toward any particular choice. All conversations are confidential, and you can bring a partner, a parent, or come on your own.
Understanding Your Pregnancy Options
No two situations are the same, which is why these conversations matter more than any article can capture. That said, here is a grounded overview of what each option actually involves.
Parenting means taking on the day-to-day responsibility of raising your child, whether with a partner, with family support, or as a single parent. It’s the path most people consider first, and it comes with real practical questions around finances, housing, childcare, and career. We can connect you with community resources that address those specifics, and we offer parenting education to help you feel prepared.
Adoption allows you to carry the pregnancy to term and place your child with another family. There are different types of arrangements, including open adoption where you maintain some contact with your child, semi-open, and closed. A common misconception is that adoption means you’ll never know what happened. Modern adoption has changed significantly, and we can connect you with local agencies that walk you through what the process actually looks like.
Abortion is a medical procedure that ends a pregnancy. In early pregnancy, two methods are used: the abortion pill, a two-medication regimen approved by the FDA for use through the first ten weeks, and aspiration abortion, a short outpatient procedure. Wisconsin law governs where and when these procedures can be provided. We provide accurate information on both without promoting or referring for abortion services.
What Happens If You’ve Already Started the Abortion Pill Process
If you’ve taken the first pill and you’re having second thoughts, you are not necessarily out of options. The abortion pill regimen uses two medications taken 24 to 48 hours apart. The abortion pill reversal protocol uses progesterone — a hormone naturally produced during pregnancy — to counteract the first medication’s effects. Research on reversal is ongoing, but a number of women have successfully continued their pregnancies after the process.
The most important factor is timing. Call or text us at (715) 843-4673, or reach the national 24/7 abortion pill reversal hotline at 1-877-558-0333.
Healing After an Abortion: The Deeper Still Program
For women who have had an abortion and are struggling emotionally, we offer connection to Deeper Still — a free, Christ-centered retreat program designed specifically for abortion recovery.
Our retreats run from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon in a small-group, confidential setting with trained facilitators. Many who attend describe carrying guilt, grief, or emotional numbness for years before coming. The retreat format creates a focused space for healing that individual appointments rarely replicate.
Our 2026 retreat dates are March 27–29 and August 21–23. Registration is free and covers accommodations, all meals, and materials. To register or ask questions, contact Christina directly at christina@hopewi.org or call (715) 843-4673. Men affected by an abortion loss are also welcome to attend.
Parenting Support and Community Resources
Choosing to parent comes with a learning curve. We offer pregnancy and early parenting education covering everything from fetal development to the postpartum period. We can also connect you with community organizations in the Wausau area that provide assistance with baby supplies, housing resources, and childcare.
For students navigating a pregnancy while finishing school, we have resources specific to your situation. For parents and partners of someone facing an unplanned pregnancy, we offer guidance on how to show up in a way that actually helps.
What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Appointments last roughly 45 minutes to an hour. You’ll meet with one of our staff in a private setting, and everything you share stays confidential. If you’ve already taken a home pregnancy test, we can confirm your results with a lab-quality test and, when appropriate, schedule an ultrasound during the same visit.
Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Thursday, but we ask that you arrive at least an hour before our 4:00 PM closing time to be sure we can see you. Calling ahead is always the better option.
To schedule: call or text (715) 843-4673. We are located at 330 Grand Avenue, Suite 100, Wausau, WI 54403. Our hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
